Time and time again the evening news covers the plight of a classic car owner who’s pride and joy was taken by thieves. ABC 7 in Los Angeles covered the story about the theft of a rare 1930 Cadillac V16 Roadster. According the news report, the car was stowed inside a Pace American enclosed car trailer at Nicks Old Car Specialty in Redlands, California. In October, thieves cut a lock to the yard where the trailer was stored and made their getaway.
Based on statements provided to ABC7 by Harry Nicks, the thieves were more likely after the trailer instead of the car based on evidence at shop. In the video, it appears that they trailer thieves were not well prepared for the combined weight of the trailer and the car as evidenced by marks left in the dirt as well as the pavement. With an undersized and underpowered tow vehicle, the 6,000 pound Cadillac inside the enclosed trailer was a tough load to haul away.
ABC7 stated the car owner’s insurance company is offering a generous reward to anyone who might have information on the location of the iconic Cadillac. Based on the limited number of these cars in existence this will be a hard car to sell or even part out. Sources told ABC7 that there are approximately twenty of these cars still around and this particular vehicle has a bit of notoriety in the automotive world.
It is hard to imagine what these scoundrels have done with this vintage V16, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that it returns unscathed.
