Posted on Barn Finds, we stumbled across a potential project car that needs a lot of work. Behold, a 1948 Kaiser-Frazer Manhattan sedan, which has been sitting, hidden away in a barn for almost 40 years.
Regardless of the angle, this car needs some tender loving care. There is numerous amounts of rust inside and out, but there is a complete engine under the hood. Despite the car’s age, its body is still as straight as an arrow, with some rust on the trunk and the floorboard.
Looking back, the Frazer Manhattan was a top-tier choice in American luxury automobiles during its run from 1946 to 1951. Notably, it was one of the first American cars to feature an envelope body and new postwar styling. Although the company was not able to stay afloat versus the likes of “The Big Three” that is Ford, GM, and Chrysler, due to their small engine configurations.
However, that is not the case now as there are several options for this Manhattan sedan in our time and day. It may have lacked in engine power back then, but now it has the opportunity for a taste of raw V8 power.
Its original front wheel drive design and six-cylinder mill can now be completely swapped for a V8, rear-wheel drive configuration that would be sure to catch other drivers off guard. While it may take some work and custom fabrication, this Manhattan body can serve as a shell to build something great.
It won’t be an easy task, but it may well be worth it to bring this vintage car back to its former glory. For only $200, would you buy this as is? It’s not a bad price to start something that has stellar potential to be something great. Be sure to share your thoughts below.
