Spotted on Barn Finds, we stumbled across a 1951 Mercury with tons of potential. What makes this find unique is that this Mercury Coupe is unmodified as several are usually chopped or tampered with.
The body looks to as straight as an arrow, not forgetting about the plentiful amounts of rust that plague this aging Mercury. A majority of the glass is missing as well, but that shouldn’t hold anyone back with this car. There is so much potential to bring this baby back to its heyday. It may take quite a bit of work, but it will sure be worth it in the end.
The condition of the exterior and rocker panels are unknown, but if they are salvageable, this Mercury deserves a shot at frame-off restoration surgery. The curved glass and chrome trim won’t be too difficult to find as this car just needs one devoted enthusiast to resurrect this lead sled.
Sporting a flathead V8 mill and three-speed with overdrive, this Mercury can become a whole new beast with the right choices and of course budget. There may be tons of rust and damage from the natural elements, but this is a true beauty in the eye of the beholder.
The natural elements got the best of this aging Mercury, but that shouldn't discourage anyone from this car's restoration potential.
The flooring may be gone inside, but the chrome trim and bumpers are still intact, saving you time to find these bumpers. Tender loving care and a garage will definitely be needed for this project, but with the right vision, this Mercury has the potential to be a show stopping lead sled that will gain the attention it has eluded since it began rotting away.
