As a magazine that focuses on hot rods and custom cars, we like to reach out to custom car builders and shops to find out what parts and builds they are currently working on. This week we reached out to Michael Dumas at Platinum Custom Cars in Manteno, Illinois.
They have stuff that no one else has. – Michael Dumas
If that isn’t custom enough for your tastes, Platinum Custom Cars also added a paddle shift electronic 4L80 transmission and Ford 9-inch rearend to round out the drivetrain. Wilwood brakes, Billet Specialties wheels and Nitto tires completed the package.
As we talked to Dumas, we found out that the best was yet to come. The car featured a Bob Thrash designed paint scheme over multiple body modifications. A hand fabricated dash and console are the main interior features. The highlight of the console was illuminated billet switches from Watson’s Streetworks.
Part of this build involved a hand built console that was designed with Watson's Streetworks' switches in mind.
Dumas admitted that he has used the Watson’s Streetworks switches on several different builds. “Quality is never an accident,” said Dumas, “It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”
He also explained that many Platinum Custom Cars used Watson’s Streetworks bulkhead passthroughs and other custom building items. “They have stuff that no one else has,” said Dumas.
The console was crafted and the Watson's switches installed.
We found the Watson’s Streetworks illuminated billet 5-wire switch kits to offer everything you need except the plug to motor lead wires which should come with the accessory that is being controlled. The switches are made from billet and represent the max in custom styling offered today. The window switch kits come in either dimpled or grooved. A 4-switch panel for the driver’s door and 3 single switch panels for each of the other doors are common with most builds. These kits include wiring connectors, switches, and panels with a nice set of instructions.

To paraphrase Dumas, quality is never an accident, it is the result of intention, effort, direction, and execution. The final result represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”
