36. Falcon Crest: 1957 Ford F-Series Truck
Set in the vineyards of California, “Falcon Crest” ran as a popular television series from 1981 through 1990. It was established as a dramatic television soap opera much like “Dallas” and “Dynasty” that banked on family conflict between the strong-willed and powerful members of the Gioberti family, owners of the fictional Falcon Crest Winery.
Overseeing the vineyards of the massive estate, ranch foreman Gus Nunouz (Nick Ramus) tends to the grapes, and other matters, in a faded, and beat-up 1957 Ford F-Series pickup ranch truck that is a staple among vehicles featured on the series.
A recurring character introduced in episode 10 of season one, Gus was depicted as a friend to Chase and his son, Cole. He regularly provides updates as to the condition of the grapes, production, makes deliveries, and in general is a supporting character, until he meets his death at the end of the second season in 1982. The truck, however, lives on in future episodes.
Also showcased, and a stark comparison to the ’57 Ford, are two 1977 Corvette C3s driven by character Lance Cumson (Lorenzo Lamas). The first one, a black coupe with T-tops, was introduced in season one, episode seven and ends up in flames. It is replaced by a hot red C3 with T-tops in the very next episode, which is more befitting of the sexy and charismatic personality of Lamas’ on- and off-screen persona.
