Tell us about yourself:
I was born and raised in the Midwest but currently live in California. I enjoy sewing, costuming, and all sorts of creative projects. I love animals, and I am extremely driven and hardworking.
What do you love most about the pinup culture?
I truly enjoy all of the fashion world, but mostly I got into pinup photography through going to all the car shows. I didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so I started going to thrift stores to find affordable fashion. Clothing from the ’40s and ’50s just seemed to fit me better.
Favorite era or decade you like to dress in?
My favorite era is definitely the ’40s. I love the clean lines, the fit, and the unique details. It’s all in the details.
If you had a choice to pose with a classic car which would it be and why? I am all about the curves! Mostly pre-’60s cars, but if I had to choose anything in the world? A 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom Jonckheere Coupe! Have you seen the round doors on that baby?!?! Bullet headlights. Just do yourself a favor and look it up. It is definitely not like any traditional Rolls but it is still gorgeous.
What’s been your favorite shoot to date with classic cars?
I sincerely had the best time at the Early Ford Store in San Dimas, but anytime when I can actually get up close and personal with a classic is a good time. I love to just see them out in life. It can get overwhelming at times at shows because there are so many people. I like to be with them in their element. It’s been awhile too.
What was the last car show you attended?
Mooneyes Christmas
If you could attend any event in the world where and what event would you attend?
I’ve always wanted to go overseas to see how other countries do their shows. I’ve never left the country before, so I am open to anything.
What was the most memorable part of 2018 for you?
Definitely starting my own business and taking the plunge into Burlesque. I have always wanted to do both. I am so happy right now. Pinch me.
Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?
My goals were definitely to hone in on my costuming and dancing. I also gave up soda and alcohol.
Any travel plans for 2019?
Definitely going to Viva Las Vegas and who knows where else. Hopefully Scotland as well. You could drop me off in the middle of nowhere and I would find a way to enjoy it. I love to explore.
What’s your favorite place to travel to?
I love to just get in a car and go. I have driven across the country numerous times. I just love driving.
What helps you unwind or relax after a stressful day?
Sewing. I always drink hot cocoa before bed.
Tell us about Burlesque Bingo and the shows you do with them?
Burlesque Bingo is so amazing! I absolutely love Audrey Deluxe (the creator). The dance floor is all numbers. The audience has bingo cards. Wherever a dancer drops a costume piece is the number that is called. If no one gets a bingo during the performance…I have to perform.
It has really helped with my confidence. I love that all of the girls are different looking and creative. Anything goes. You can tell in pictures that I am sincerely having the time of my life. I’ve done bingo shows in Vegas, San Diego, and Long Beach. I wish we could take it on the road all over.
Any upcoming shows planned? I am debuting a new act on March 16th at Harvelle’s in Long Beach. It will also be my birthday performance. 21 again! Just kidding 33 and never been happier!
What’s your favorite music to dance to? I can literally dance to anything. What I love about burlesque is all of the jazz music that I get exposed to.
Favorite band: so hard to choose! Most of them are long gone. I love The Ink Spots. I grew up on a plethora of styles. Motown, R&B, Jazz, funk…everything.
Favorite local spot to watch a live band or listen to music:
I haven’t found one yet. I know that I live in a place with so many options, but I haven’t had a chance to have a “local spot.” Good thing I love to drive.
Where can we see more of your photos or show schedule?
I keep everyone up to date on my Instagram account. I am terrible with Facebook. I am also working on launching a personal website just for fans and my Burlesque costuming…hang tight. Big things are coming! www.instagram.com/gingerwatson
