Anyone who’s been around nitrous cars knows the fear: a crash happens, and the bottle is still open, feeding a fire. It’s a nightmare scenario that can turn a bad situation into a total loss rather quickly. Nitrous pioneer Mike Thermos and his crew at Nitrous Supply have just released a new nitrous oxide safety system that they designed specifically to give track crews a fighting chance when things go wrong. The system is genius because it’s so simple. It’s an in-line valve with a standard on/off lever for the driver, but it also has a second, cable-actuated lever. You run that cable to a T-handle mounted on the outside of the car, like on the A-pillar or the rear decklid. If a crash knocks the driver out or they can’t reach the main shutoff, a track worker can just run up, yank the handle, and kill the flow of nitrous instantly. It’s the kind of smart, simple safety gear that many sanctioning bodies are now starting to require.
Because this is a safety part, it has to work every time, but it also can’t slow you down. The heart of the system is Nitrous Supply’s proven Outlaw Power Valve, a high-flow piece that’s CNC-machined from billet aluminum. It has a huge 0.500-inch opening, so it won’t choke off the power on a big-shot nitrous plate. The complete nitrous oxide safety system (P/N 26500) comes ready to install and is available with either AN-6 or AN-8 fittings to match your existing lines.
This is one of those upgrades that’s a no-brainer for any serious racer. In a fire, seconds count, and giving the safety crew a way to shut off the bottle from outside the car could be the one thing that saves your car, or even you. The new nitrous oxide safety system from Nitrous Supply is a small price to pay for that kind of peace of mind.
