Ah, the Pro-Touring movement. It’s the gift that keeps on giving for those of us that create daily news that car guys love, and we hope that the gravy train keeps on rolling! Each day we make it a point to peruse the threads over at pro-touring.com and this ’70 Cougar XR7 build really caught our eye.
Owner, “Super Joe” Green has titled the car “Project Iridium Cat” and the silver image that you see here is actually a Photoshop rendering that he made up as the inspiration to complete his project.
The car itself was purchased in it’s original solid condition, wearing a shade of original Ford “Grandpa Green” with a white vinyl top and white interior. The owner has already added on better wheels and suspension and the rear wing, and the rest of the build process is now under way.
What we like best about this Cougar is that it is not a Camaro. It’s not that we have anything against Camaro’s, but it’s that we love seeing the eclectic cars get their day in the sun a well. Since the Cougar and the Mustang are kissing cousins we’re quite sure that the suspension and brake setups required to turn this sucker into a corner carver should be plentiful.
We also genuinely dig seeing other cars from the old Trans Am series out carving corners again, so Cougar’s, Challenger’s, Cuda’s, and AMX’s all have a soft spot in our hearts!
