And now from the Land Down Under comes a squirrely, RHD, 80’s vintage full-size Bronco doing ¼-miles in the 10’s! Brought to us by Jalopnik, this wheelie poppin’ Bronco was recently showing off at The Calder Park Drags in Melbourne, Australia. Dyno’d at 855HP, Westernlink Automotive’s project SUV is running a stroked, bottle-fed 427 W Cobra motor that pulls hard to the right. Keeping this thing in a straight line was a handful and if you’re running against this beast, you’ll want to be on left side of strip.
The first run, sans wheelie bar, results in a near hit with the wall. The second run is more successful. Even with the wheelie bar now in place it’s still a loose cannon, but once it hooks up, get out of the way and watch it turn in a 10.26 second ¼ mile at 137MPH. Then we get a look at a third run against a little Euro Capri. The Bronco pulls hard to the right again but clocks 10.42 second ¼ mile at 135MPH.
The tall body, short wheelbase and 855HP is a tricky combination and will need some more sorting out to get under control. Until then, it’s very cool to see this jumbo sized Bronco move so quickly and of course everyone knows that Bronco’s look really ridiculous at “low speeds…”
