The Viper Cup series held a doubleheader event at Miller Motorsports Park this past weekend, and series championship contender, Ryan Schimsk completed a sweep of the weekend races by running away with Sunday’s Dodge Viper Cup series race number 8 at Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, UT.

Schimsk took his Viper ACR-X to an easy race win from pole position in the first race of the weekend, joined on the podium by series leader, Ben Keating, and Dodge Car Brand President and CEO, Ralph Gilles.

Sunday’s competition was tightly fought on the Miller ‘East Course,’ with Schimsk once again taking the pole position to start. Again, Schimsk, Keating and Gilles fought each other through the race, until the weather turned for the worse. With twelve laps complete, a violent rainstorm turned the course slick in spots.

Gilles was in second spot behind Schimsk when the clouds opened, allowing Charlie Putman to close up. The two crossed the start line, taking the white flag side by side. Gilles held Putman off, but when the rain got even more intense, Putman was able to slip by and grab second place.

In the meantime, Schimsk had built up enough of a lead that he was able to creep through the final lap, still finishing six seconds ahead of Putman.

The Viper Cup series will finish with a doubleheader event at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, in Pahrump, NV, on October 23 and 24.
