We’re strongly against drinking and driving, so in no way is this condoning the actions of a Shorewood, Naperville, IL. man who was driving 142 mph when he rolled his ’08 Dodge Charger R/T. According to Naperville police, the 36-year-old driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.2, and now “faces additional charges of reckless driving, improper lane usage and speeding of 142mph in a 40 mph zone on top of the original charges of DUI and driving too fast for conditions,” Sgt. Gregg Bell said Thursday.
According to the Triblocal.com report, the man was driving an orange ’08 Dodge Charger eastbound on Ogden Avenue near Rickert Drive about 12:52 a.m. Jan. 10 when police reported that the car veered off the road and struck both a traffic sign and the curb, launching the Charger off the ground.
The car then bounced off another curb and again “lost contact with the ground” before rolling over and hitting a billboard and a fence.
The Charger ultimately tumbled to a rest in a yard in the 500 block of Chamberlain Lane, where police found the driver trapped inside the car.
The Charger’s HEMI engine, as well as an errant tire – were found in a nearby parking lot, police said. Firefighters removed the driver and transported him to Edward Hospital with only minor injuries.
“It’s amazing he survived that crash,” Sgt. Gregg Bell said.
