Mopars are in our blood here in the United States, but we’re not the only ones drawn to the brands held together by the big blue “M.” Australians are also very much about their Mopars and they celebrate their brand loyalty every year at the Mopar Sunday event. Check out some of the highlights from last year’s event in the video above compliments of Chromjuwelen.
Mopar Sunday was started back in 2003 by Sam Tatton as a birthday celebration for his father. The first year, friends and family of the Tattons gathered to have a bit of fun at the track. Nine years later, Tatton is still putting on the event but it has grown into an all-out celebration of anything Mopar.
The full day event takes place in the middle of the summer at the Willowbank Raceway in Willowbank, Australia, and offers drivers chances to participant in drag races, the Show & Shine and Dyno Shootout. Team Mopar Australia, the quickest Australian Pro Stock team in racing history also comes out to the event to show their appreciation for their fans.
Last year, approximately 3,000 people made it out to the event, which is the largest Mopar drag racing event in Australia.
The 2011 Mopar Sunday was held on July 31st and saw some incredible competition. Mark Ayson and his VH Charger took the win in the 10.99 second and under drag class, while Steve Read took the fastest run time recognition with a quarter mile time of just 5.52 seconds.
The Dyno Shootout was won by Greg Behrendorff and his 303.1hp VJ Valiant Ute, while the Show & Shine brought winners in nine different categories.
Mopar Sunday looks like an all out blast for Mopar enthusiasts.
If you’re in the Willowbank area this coming summer, be sure to stop by the raceway on July 29th to check out the day’s festivities.
