When the young men and women of the United States military deploy to places like Iraq, they give up a lot. They fight for our country away from family, friends, and for one young California soldier, away from the project car of his dreams. As we found out from San Diego’s 10 News, although Private First Class Greg Seibert thought plans to restore his ‘69 Plymouth Fury 3 were put on hold when he was deployed for a year, his father Benny had other plans. After being told he was going to get a family portrait taken, Seibert got the surprise of his life when his near finished project car was revealed.
Siebert and his father bought the Plymouth back in 2010 for just $1,500. When Siebert was deployed to Iraq, plans to restore the car together were put on hold, or so he thought.
Wanting to surprise his son, Benny Siebert asked the community for help in piecing together the project car. Due to back problems, Benny was unable to do the work himself but 15 companies came through to make his and his son’s dream come true.
Rancho Engine Machine supplied the engine for the build, which was put into the car by West Escondido Automotive. Other companies including O’Reillys Summit Racing, Poway Transmission, DIY Garage and Discount Tire also stepped up and helped out with the build.
While the car is still awaiting its Alpine White paint, that is set to be laid in about three weeks, the car is virtually finished. Instead of waiting years to drive his project car named “Benny Lee” for his father, Siebert can enjoy the Plymouth now. There’s no better gift for a car guy and a well deserving soldier than that.
