Burnouts are joyous expressions of horsepower, torque and the “senseless” destruction of perfectly good tires. Beater burnouts are entertaining and muscle car smoke sessions are usually rather flashy, but there is something inherently cool about classic pickup frying the tires on a back road. Seeing a lifted second generation Dodge four-wheel-drive pickup getting sideways during a serious burnout is even more entertaining.
According to the description, this bright yellow beast is powered by an obviously suped up 440 RB engine capable of some serious smoke shows and causing trouble when the mood strikes the truck owner. Fortunately the gentleman behind the wheel seems to take into account the need for rarely traveled road for the display of power.
The D-Series trucks never came with a 440, but perhaps it should have been considered as an option. Bigger displacement and the increase in power that comes along with it would have made the ’67 to ’71 trucks a little more fun; perhaps that was the motivation for the engine swap on this particular truck.
Regardless of the intent behind the build, the end result is an awesome of big block power in a classic pickup. Without knowing the actual size of the lift and the BF Goodrich Trail TA’s, it is safe to say that this truck has plenty of power both on and off the road. For those unsure of what is sitting in front of them at a traffic light, the owner proudly bestowed a couple of the iconic Ram decals on the rear window of the truck.
