The all-new NMCA WEST Flowmaster Event Series, designed to bring the exciting machines and racing action that fans of the Flowmaster NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series have become accustomed to for more than a decade to the west coast, has unveiled the general regulations and class rules packages for its inaugural season.
The NMCA WEST series will feature a number of exciting heads-up and index categories that have proven popular on the left coast racing scene, including Pro Street, True 10.5, 275 Drag Radial, Hot Street N/A 10.5, Outlaw 8.5, Nostaglia Street Car, and the Open Comp, Mustang Madness, Super Quick, and Quick Street bracket/index classes.
The opening event for the new series is tentatively scheduled for Apr. 20-22 at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, with events at Bakersfield, Calif. June 22-24, Phoenix, Ariz. Sept. 21-23, and back to Fontana Oct. 19-21. In a rather surprising rumor, Promedia officials have shared word of negations with the Los Angeles County Fair Association about the possibility of conducting an NMCA WEST event at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in late summer. This could come as potentially quite a shocker, as the Pomona facility has been locked up tighter than Fort Knox for organized racing activities outside of the two NHRA national events for the better part of the last decade.
In other NMCA-related news, series officials confirmed on Wednesday that a deal has once again been struck with the NHRA and its now defunct Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed program, following up on the unique partnership that began mid-season in 2011. This season, NMCA class winners at any event contested at an NHRA member track (Commerce, Joliet, Columbus, Milan, and Bowling Green) will earn the coveted NHRA “Wally” trophies as part of the NHRA Unleashed connection. Furthermore, at the season-ending NMCA awards ceremony, class champions who displayed the Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed decals on their race cars during the season will be eligible for what’s being termed a “double-tiered” Wally trophy. An official release is forthcoming.
