Hey luxo-barge fans! A super straight ’67 Chrysler Crown Coupe popped up on eBay and sold quickly for a very reasonable price of $10,820. This model marked the end of the Imperial as a separate body style from lowlier Chrysler stablemates and beginning in 1969, the Imperial was essentially a blinged up New Yorker. By 1975 the marque faded away. Check it out on Ebay.
This broad shouldered beauty from 1967 is a testament to Chrysler styling chief Elwood Engle and his team of designers that took the helm after Virgil Exner departed. Engle rose to fame with his previous design work at Ford if you look closely you can see Dearborn design cues in this Imp’s sheet metal.
Engle’s signature slab sides and thick C-pillars are a variation of themes first introduced on late fifties T-Birds, Galaxies and the ’61 Lincoln Continentals. The “floating” trunk design and separate vertical bumpers are also Engle trademarks. If it’s been awhile since you’ve seen one of these leviathans, check out the “jewelry” on this car! From the eagle emblems to the intricate detailing on the hubcaps, this model epitomizes mid-sixties cool.
This particular example is a loaded to the gills, black plate car from California with the obligatory 440 and TorqueFlite transmission. Mileage is 41K miles although seller admits that it is unknown if this is original. The car is laser straight with one repaint and looks great in Maroon with its black vinyl landau roof.
We think the lucky new owner got a quite a slice of Mopar luxury for just $10,820.
