We’ve done a few stories about barn finds, and usually the cars are just parked in a barn, where they sat for years after being driven there. Rarely do we see a car in a barn that was put in there in pieces, and had it’s own stall, like this 1964 Malibu had.
The story behind this barn find, that Randy tells us on the Rat Rods Rule forum, is that a guy was going to build the car about 15 years ago. He had built a nice 350 for it and had a Saginaw 4 speed transmission that was about ready to go into the car, but unfortunately he became ill and the and the project was put on hold until he could get to working on it.
He was getting pretty ill and the car was sitting for a while, so he asked a friend to store the car for him in his barn. The friend obliged, and they put the frame in one stall, the body went into another, and parts were stored here and there. Years had passed and the original owner had passed away before he got a chance to work on the car again.
A couple years ago, Randy’s friend heard about the car and he bought it, and it sat again for a while. But Randy says that some how he knew the car would come to him and a couple of months ago his friend decided to pass the torch on to Randy.
Randy’s plans include using the frame as a prototype at his friend’s shop to produce Corvette suspension components to mount to the frame. It sounds like he’s going to be making his Malibu handle a bit better and with the work Randy has done at his own shop, Riotzcreations, this Chevrolet is in more than capable hands.
