Thing have been relatively quiet on the Outlaw 10.5 home front in regards to the outright quarter-mile record since October of 2010 – that’s when class kingpin Tim Lynch and his partner in crime, Steve Petty, unleashed the quickest full-pull performance in history at 6.26 seconds at more than 323 MPH during the annual Shakedown at E’Town.  But while the category is shifting to the eighth-mile here in the states as the frontrunners chase the four-oh’s, folks across the pond in Australia are still taking it out the back door as they give chase to their American counterparts.

On Saturday evening (or about the time you early-risers were waking from your Friday evening slumber here in the states), Australian doorslammer ace Frank Mamone was tearing up the Sydney Dragway quarter-mile at the third round of the Australian Pro Street Association (APSA) series. There, Mamone drove all the way to victory lane in the Outlaw 10.5 category following a final round ousting of Jeremy Callaghan with a nice 6.57, but it was in the opening round that Mamone made his biggest shot with a new career best pass of 6.380 seconds at 229.47 MPH. Mamone’s rocket was 1.11 to the 60-foot clocks and 4.29 to half track on the run.

Mamones’ badass supercharged Chevy II was built by Don Ness Race Cars and was previously raced in the states by Shane Gray (yes, that Shane Gray) as a Reher Morrison-powered, big-inch nitrous car owned by his father, Johnny.

As though the black beauty doesn’t already look blazing fast sitting completely still, watching it hike the front wheels at half track as it burns the coals will certainly get the 10W30 in your veins pumping.
