Companies are always finding new ways to integrate modern technology into muscle cars. At SEMA 2026, Flaming River showed the world its Muscle Car Microsteer Electric Power Assist Steering Column, which allows enthusiasts to ditch traditional power steering systems and make their cars handle like modern performance cars.

The Muscle Car Microsteer Electric Power Assist Steering Column not only helps owners modernize their vehicles, but also gets rid of hydraulic systems that leak and require more complex accessory drives. It lowers the steering effort that’s required when a vehicle is equipped with a manual steering system. Flaming River’s Microsteer system uses an adjustable potentiometer, which allows the assistance level to be adjusted based on how you drive your vehicle.

Flaming River’s Jim Stanfield says the Microsteer system can be used in any vehicle:

“We have one that’s mounted inside the column. We can custom-build a floor shift style column for you where we can mount the motor anywhere you tell us. We can clock the motor in any direction, it doesn’t have any interference issues with a gas pedal, brake pedal, or any gauges. This is a plug-and-play system that comes with an ECU and wiring harness.”

Right now, Flaming River has direct-fit Microsteer systems for ‘65 to ‘70 Mustangs, ‘67 and ‘68 Camaros, and ‘69 to ‘82 Corvettes. You can learn more about the Flaming River Muscle Car Microsteer Electric Power Assist Steering Column right here on the company’s website.
