Heidt’s Has You Covered Both Front and Rear

When it comes to building the custom hot rod of your dreams, there is probably nothing more important than choosing the right suspension components (well except maybe equally matched by the right choice of the power plant between the frame rails.) Nowadays more and more people are concerned with both show AND go – so with companies like Heidt’s keeping up with both technology and engineering – you can have the best of BOTH worlds!

Enter Heidt’s SUPERIDE series for both IFS (Independent Front Suspension) and IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) hot rod applications. The guess work is now taken out of the equation with all of the suspension geometry dialed in to help you hit the ground running.

Many street rod builders realized long ago that Ford’s Mustang II front suspension is the ticket for converting pre-war straight-axle cars to independent front suspensions due to its compact design and easily adaptable crossmember. Of course there were issues for those hot rodders wanting to incorporate coil over shocks early on. Eventually the aftermarket continued to develop and improve on IFS packages and compatibility with different model lines. In time, companies like Heidts developed IFS suspensions that use all new components, geometry, and engineering – offering superior handling and ride qualities while remaining adaptable and compact.

When it comes to building the custom hot rod of your dreams, there is probably nothing more important than choosing the right suspension components.

Of course the independent rear suspension and custom IRS applications soon followed suit. Every SUPERIDE IRS begins with a cast aluminum alloy center housing, which is also available fully polished and includes a Ford 9-inch, which is also available in fully polished aluminum. All popular gear ratios are standard, and positraction is available.

Tread widths for all popular applications from 55- to 62-inches, and custom widths can be ordered. Inboard disc brakes with polished Wilwood calipers also come standard. Half shafts include heavy duty 1350 U-joints, and are available chrome plated. Lower control arms are available standard in plain steel, or can be upgraded to polished stainless steel, plain or polished billet aluminum. Aldan adjustable billet coil-overs are standard, but also available polished. Chrome springs are standard. Forward struts, pinion support links, tie bars and pinion plate are also available in polished stainless steel and plain or polished billet aluminum.

As the market has continued to develop, interest in adapting aftermarket suspension systems to hot rods and muscle-era cars has grown tremendously. So, Heidts has recently made its SUPERIDE II available for Ford Fairlane and Mercury Comet applications from 1966-’67. The basic kit can accommodate small- and big-block Ford V-8s, and comes with tubular A-arms in plain steel, power rack and pinion unit, 11-inch standard brake rotors, dropped spindles and ten-position adjustable billet coilover shocks with chrome springs. For more information on these and other suspension upgrades, make sure to check out what’s new over at Heidt’s and if you haven’t yet, have a look at their Facebook page as well for constant updates.
