Slammed ’66 Coupe De Ville

We dedicate this article to those who think outside the box, the ones that occasionally step outside of their comfort zone to pursue other automotive trends not directly associated with theirs. We admit, this ’66 Cadillac Coupe de Ville probably doesn’t suit everybody’s tastes. But that’s what makes it so cool. In case you’re wondering, we found it over on the Stance Works website.

How could you not want to climb behind that huge steering wheel and go for a cruise in this thing?

Usually we bring you story after story on classic American musclecars, and although this Caddy is most certainly American it isn’t what we would consider a performance vehicle. Far from it, in fact. It may pack 429ci. of legit Cadillac engineering under its mile-long hood, but it relies on every one of those 340 [gross] horsepowers and 480 ft.-lbs. of torque to propel its 4400lb. self down the road.

The Coupe de Ville doesn’t do performance or speed. It doesn’t even handle or stop particularly well. What it does do is take you wherever you want to go in retro cool class, style, and endless poshness. It’s seats are styled after couches of the era. It’s as quiet as a feather and as smooth as one too.

This particular example is owned by Cody Craven, and still carries it’s all original, stock appearance with it’s factory bronze hue covered in the period-correct dark vinyl top. It’s a look that’s clean, simple, and stays true to the car’s overall original look.

All trim and chrome pieces have been retained as well, forgoing the a-typical shaved appearance. If it ain’t broke don’t don’t fix it, right? The only deviation from stock is an obvious one: the lowered ride height. You can thank the air-ride suspension for that. Love it or hate it, we think it totally makes this car.

We admit that this might stray a little too far from our normal diet of ram-air equipped big-blocks and racing stripes. But is it cool? Oh, yes. It’s so cool in fact that you’re author has lusted after these things since he was a toddler. I might just have to get one now.
