SEMA 2012: Continental Tires ContiSport Contact 3

With the fifth-generation Camaro taking over all forms of motorsport including road racing and autocross, it makes sense for tire manufacturers to dedicate some time creating the best performance tires available to the demand. Obviously, there are many tire makers to choose from in making your selection.

One of those tire makers is Continental, and they currently make a tire called the ContiSport Contact 3 that works perfectly for the road racing enthusiast looking for excellent grip and increased handling.

We found a set sitting on a brand new Camaro 1LE at SEMA this year, and Travis Roffler, Continental Tires Sales Manager was happy to tell us all about it. “The ContiSport Contact 3 is perfect for the road racer wanting the balance of circuit racing and summertime driving.”

Some of the key features include an asymmetrical tread pattern design that maximizes grip while traveling through corners at high speeds. This not only helps the driver post quicker lap times, but helps prevent the car from going off the track – giving the driver more confidence in the turns.

Incorporated into the asymmetrical pattern is a ribbed treading that allows for even distribution for braking forces across the entire contact patch that aids the driver and the brakes in slowing the car down. For anyone that knows what it’s like to stop a car at 150+ mph, knows that any additional braking characteristics are more than welcomed.

However, if you’re thinking you can throw these on your daily driven musclecar and expect all-season style of driving, you can forget it. Because these tires are only good in dry and wet conditions, for when you’re caught in the rain on the circuit. They offer no winter capabilities whatsoever.

  • Excellent grip
  • Increases handling
  • Increases steering response
