For many people, the name Mark Stielow is congruent with a pro-touring master and die-hard Chevy fan, but for those who don’t recognize the name, well, GM is aiming to change that. In the latest episode of Faces of GM, Stielow talks about building cars, his passion for the LS engine and what it’s like to be the face behind a magazine feature vehicle. Check it out above.
When Stielow isn’t working as a Program Engineering Manager for GM, he can be found in his garage tinkering on his own classic car projects. His car of choice? First-generation Camaros. But we’re not talking you’re traditional show-queen type of Camaros. We’re talking full-out pro-touring cars that have been driven all the way to the top in events like the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
While many of you might recognize Stielow’s bright red “Red Devil” Camaro from the OUSCI a couple years ago, he’s built 40 some cars in his years. Most recently, he finished a 1967 Camaro dubbed Mayhem which makes use of a GM LS7 engine and plenty of LSX add-ons for that ultimate performance machine mash up.
Whether you’re into pro-touring cars, show cars or cruisers, you’ve got to appreciate an enthusiast that loves what he does so much that he takes it from work to weekend through his automotive hobby. Surprisingly, Stielow makes it look easy, but such is the case with something you are truly passionate about.
Stielow is an amazing driver, killer builder and all-around exceptional Chevy enthusiast. While we don’t quite know when and where Mayhem will be unleashed next season, if you catch Stielow at a local pro-touring event, it would be well worth your time to at least sit and watch his skills behind the wheels of the cars he so expertly creates.
