What do you get when you mix a 1986 Volvo 245 wagon and a small-block Chevy engine? Well, if you said insanity, you’d be correct. But nothing could have prepared us for just how insane this combination could be until we saw the video above on Jalopnik. Sure, it’s not your typical Volvo and certainly isn’t your typical Chevy-powered machine, but something about a V8-wielding, drift-performing grocery-getter just can’t go without mention.

 An unlikely host, this ordinary Volvo wagon is equipped with a 355ci small-block, complete with Brodix street heads, a Brodix aluminum intake and a 750cfm 4150 mechanical Holley carburetor, with a virtually stock bottom end. This powerhouse is matted to a Muncie 4-speed transmission for optimal driftability for driver Cody Woods.

Of course, as a drift car, this Volvo has to be equipped with a pretty hefty suspension system. Under the car, you’ll find Moser axles a Ford 8.8-inch rearend, Eibach 450 lb/in. ERS springs and double-djustable Koni inserts on the rear. The car also sports camber plates, adjustable trailing arms, an adjustable panhard bar, and adjustable torque rods from Kaplhenke Racing. The suspension is topped off with 600 lb/in. springs on the front with helper springs, Kaplhenke Racing short struts, upgraded brakes, and a hydro e-brake.

Woods continues to mess with different wheel/caster/camber combinations.

This bad ass Volvo is one crazy Chevy-powered drift machine and we can’t wait to see where it goes next year. Caps off to Woods for thinking way out of the box on this one!
