Season 2 of Big Muscle Concludes with Mike Musto’s Muscular Mopars

What do you get when you pair a 1968 Charger and a 1969 Dodge Daytona replica together? Well, besides some great Mopar musclecars, you get one of the best episodes of Big Muscle yet. But these cars aren’t just anyone’s projects. In fact, they are host Mike Musto’s personal cars that he so graciously shares with us in the Season 2 finale episode of Big Muscle. Check it out above.

Musto’s cars are more than just cars, and are far more than car show queens. These boisterous Mopars are some of the coolest open road, pro-touring cars out there- built for performance, handling, and a dang good time. But they’re also the reason Musto now hosts Big Muscle. On behalf of all the fans, we thank these cars tenfold.

Musto’s enthusiasm for cars is evident- just watch past episodes of Big Muscle- but it is unmatched when it comes Musto’s own vehicles. If you’re a purist or a car show lawn-chair parker, be warned now. Musto’s enthusiasm does not mean he takes it easy on his cars by any stretch of the imagination. Rather, Musto drives the life out of his cars, concluding that if you’re saving your car for the next guy, you aren’t doing it right.

That’s what inspired Musto to create his one-of-a-kind ‘69 Daytona replica. Built out of a clean ‘69 Charger Musto purchased in Indiana in 2006, this car, which we took a look at back in May of last year, takes American muscle to an extreme.

Although this isn't a true Daytona, this is our kind of winged warrior!

Why a matte black Daytona? Because of the mere personality it exudes. Why an open road Daytona? Well, it’s never been done before.

That being said, Musto set his Daytona clone up for superior performance, beyond what any NASCAR competition could have portrayed back in the day. To do this, Musto equipped the car with a low deck, 471ci stroker motor good for just over 500hp.

Backed by a five-speed manual transmission, modern SRT8 Charger brake rotors, ‘08 Viper brake Calipers and amenities like cruise control and air conditioning, this Daytona is one cross country vehicle not soon to be topped.

Speaking of cross-country trips, Musto’s ‘68 Charger is built for the open road, too. Equipped with a mild 440ci engine (nearly stock, as Musto admits), Baer brakes, Moroso oil accumulator, and a 727 automatic “slap shift” transmission, this boisterous Mopar is perfect for cruising around town as well as taking on any sort of competition – that is if you don’t mind that it only gets 10 miles to the gallon of fuel. Even with that fuel mileage, Musto has still put nearly 60,000 miles on the engine. What can we say? He drives his cars.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed Season 2 of Big Muscle and can’t wait to see what Season 3 brings. But no matter what cars appear on the show next, we rest assured that Musto will drive them like he means it. How else would you drive something with big muscle?
