This week’s pre-Christmas Hump Day Holeshot is a quick little number produced by RevRods.com of this slick silver ’57 Bel Air roaring down a deserted country road while the driver powershifting through the gears as the rear meats evaporate in a haze of sticky white smoke. Yeah, it’s pretty damn cool.
There’s definitely something to be said about the classic combination of classic Chevrolet, a big block Rat motor, and a stout manual gearbox ripping up all sorts of hell through a positraction rear.
And, although this ’57 is far more of a street rod than say a throwback to the model’s “Black Widow” factory-built race car sibling, we can’t give it any grief. I mean, seriously. Just listen to it. It’s bad ass.
We went over to RevRods to get the skinny on this Bel Air: “This car is in absolutely perfect condition. Before its complete frame-off restoration, it spent nearly all of its years in Plano and Dallas Texas, which accounts for its completely rust-free frame and body. If you’re cruising the street in this beautiful machine, there isn’t a single person who doesn’t stop what they’re doing and stare at you until you’re out of site. The car really is amazing.”
Inside, the 427cui plant snorts out 597.7 hp @ 6800rpm and 496.6 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm. The 427 touts Hooker Super Comp ceramic coated headers, Borla exhaust through 3 ½-inch oval pipes all topped with a Holley Dominator carb. A Tremec 5-speed TKO 600 with a Centerforce clutch, a 11-inch GM flywheel and a Lakewood Scatter Shield bell housing constitute the gearbox. A 9-inch Ford with Moser axles and 4.11 gears total the rear.
