Back in the late ’60’s, when the musclecar revolution was in full swing, Ford Motor Company produced a limited amount of Mach 1 Mustangs with what has since become known as the “R-Code” option package. Standard equipment power came from the 428 cubic-inch Cobra Jet Ram Air engine, which produced 335 horsepower on paper, but in reality was probably closer to 400 using the measuring equipment of the time.

This particular machine, offered for sale by Ray Skillman Collector Car Sales via eBay, rolled off the assembly line with a four-speed manual transmission and 3.50:1 Traction-Lok rear differential, and according to the seller, was one of only 28 cars with the same option package produced in 1969. The car is still factory original (no resto here!) and is covered in Raven Black paint with a pair of red rally stripes, one on each side of the car. Power steering and front disc brakes were also standard equipment, and the interior wears the factory original vinyl buckets. The seller has disclosed that there has been some minor paint work performed, but in a quick inspection of the photos we couldn’t tell. Perhaps the best part, the car rolled off the line with an original sales price of a whopping $4,079.51 on the sticker, which barely qualifies as a good down payment on a current Mustang. The car has 20,000 miles on it, meaning it’s been driven an average of 450 miles per year, and we’d bet most of those were put on before the original owner realized what a gem he had and decided to park it. The car was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines Magazine back in 2007 on the cover. It still has the original drivetrain and interior. This Mach 1 includes a ton of documentation to verify it’s authenticity including the build sheet, window sticker, and a ton of other information related to the car’s provenance. A fine example of the breed, and we just went digging through the couch, but failed to even come up with enough for the down payment.
