For many of us, the idea of Rockers and Rods is a rite of passage from being a teen to being a driver with a cool stereo in our car. Rock stars and their cars bring two of our favorite things together, and what a combination it has become. We love the classic rock music videos with street rods featured, and we can’t get enough of the high horsepower fun that can be had in a music video. Even Goodguys Rod and Custom Association has asked us to help them pick some favorite tunes for 2013.
Sometimes, the cars are somewhat tame, other times, the cars are raising hell like only a rock star can. We’ve even seen some cool music videos dedicated to cars and women – a third aspect that only adds to the lure of cool cars.
When we came across this 1966 ‘Rock and Roll’ Impala on eBay, and it seems just a little over the top. While the car itself is pretty awesome in general, does the paint theme distract from the meat and potatoes aspect?
According to the seller, it was built from the ground up and it sports an impressive array of performance parts on the Russ Racing 350 cubic inch mill. With MSD ignition parts, a Holley 750 Double Pumper, Edelbrock Performance intake and aluminum heads, and Hooker Headers feeding a 2-1/2-inch Flowmaster exhaust, it looks like it was built for performance.
This Impala has definitely got the goodies under the hood, but the part that catches your eye prior to seeing anything under the hood is the “It’s Only Rock and Roll” paint scheme on the outside. With Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon logo, the famous Rolling Stones lips and a Grateful Dead skull surround a left-handed guitar.
On the passenger’s side, you have Jimi Hendrix flanked by Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin along for the ride. On the driver’s side, the trio of Steven Tyler, Robert Plant and Mick Jagger keep you company. Of course, no 1970’s-themed musclecar would be the same without the flame job.
