Country music artist Tim McGraw seems to have it all – he’s married to the beautiful Faith Hill, counts the late, great, legendary Philadelphia Phillies World Series-winning closer Tug McGraw (RIP!) as his dad, and has had 11 consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard album charts. He’s also got three Grammy Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 11 CMA’s, 10 American Music Awards, and three People’s Choice awards to his credit. He, along with his wife, toured and became the highest-grossing tour in country music history – and he’s an actor, with credits in Flicka, The Blind Side, Friday Night Lights, and more.
The guy does it all – and now, he drives racecars. He recently took to the Charlotte Motor Speedway with the Richard Petty Driving Experience, from the Shelby GT500 to the Challenger SRT-8 to the Camaro ZL1, McGraw takes them all to task. He gets some coaching from the Petty instructor, but overall he does a pretty good job of wheeling the hotrods around the track.
We find it interesting that his favorite choice is the ZL1 – despite the Mustang having more horsepower, the tuned suspension in the Camaro seems to tickle his fancy a bit more. And we also thought it was interesting to note that he immediately felt the heavy weight of the Challenger made it more difficult to drive.
Having the chance to drive one of these cars would be a gearhead’s dream come true, and McGraw gets to test them all out in this installment of Turn Up The Music And Drive. It’s neat to hear about what his life was like growing up, too, so check it out – and turn up the music!
