If you can’t afford the costly shipping fee from port to port, it looks like you’ll just have to sit this one out. It’s the weekly Muscle Cars Invasion meet in Beirut, Lebanon.
Earlier this month, we covered the initial landing of Muscle Car Invasion’s setup in the Middle East as it garnered attention from thousands. Over 3,000 people have participated in these shows with their own vehicles, some of which are these bang-up classic MOPARs.
On display were Chargers, Challengers, and even a Barracuda. One of the Chargers, which you may have seen in another article, drew whoops and cheers as it sped around a patch of asphalt, doing tiny drifts around cones and tires as part what appears to be a time trial event–we don’t speak Arabic, so we can’t make out what time he got.
It’s great to see car enthusiasm in a region better known, as far as cars go, for celebrating the second estate, what with Arabian princes and Abu Dhabi tycoons who drive Rolls-Royces and Bugattis. Muscle Car Invasion solidifies and conjoins folks who can’t afford such fancy vehicles, but still like what American automobiles bring to the table: robustness, style, and a big-block V8.
At the very least, it’s news that can make you smile from a territory wracked by centuries of privation and conflict. It’s clear from a get-together like this that somewhere beneath the visage of religious differences, there lies an appreciation of something universal: the freedom and joy that comes from driving a great car.
