If you’ve been following along with Royal Purple and their “Show It Off At SEMA” contest the last two years, then you’ll know that Royal Purple selected two vehicles for the contest, and those winners were Royal Purple’s guests at SEMA, the annual trade show for everything automotive. The contest asked for vehicle owners to submit their ride during a specified period of time, and the two vehicles selected were among some very stiff competition.
The first year, we saw Joe Cherry’s 1958 Chevy dubbed “El Nomado”, a custom wagon converted to an El Camino-style truck, selected alongside a 2010 Dodge Challenger that Shawn Kaufman called “Galvatron”, cloaked in a very familiar looking shade of purple. The second year of the contest brought us “Black Diamond”, a very cool 1965 Mustang convertible belonging to Todd Foust, and a modern HEMI-powered 1970 Roadrunner that Dennis Rostenbach submitted.
Each year of the contest, the selected winners and their cars were invited to SEMA as a guest of Royal Purple, who paid for the trip, transportation, and accommodations for each winner. Not only did they get to attend SEMA as a guest of Royal Purple, but they were honored with their presence at a dinner hosted by Royal Purple. Of course, each winner receives some cool swag while they are there, too.
To change things up a little this time around, though, Royal Purple has announced that they will split the two winners into categories: a car will win the second phase, but the first phase is limited to trucks. This means that we’ll see a representative of the car and truck world displayed at the Royal Purple booth this fall at SEMA.
Truck owners can begin submitting their truck to the contest from August 1st through August 8th via the official Royal Purple Facebook fan page. After that, five finalists will be selected, and they will have the opportunity to send more pictures and detailed specs of their truck. The winning truck will be selected by a panel of editors from leading truck publications, and it will be announced on the Facebook fan page on August 26th.
Car owners will be able to submit their car on the Royal Purple Facebook fan page from August 15th through August 22nd. Then five finalists will be selected, and they, too, will have the opportunity to send more pics and detailed information about their car. The winning entry for the car class will be judged by automotive media, including one of our own editors here at Power Automedia, as well as the two winners from last year, Todd Foust and Dennis Rostenbach. The winning car entry will be announced on the Facebook fan page on September 6th.
The SEMA Show is an automotive trade show for automotive professionals, and if you’ve ever gone to one you’ll know that it’s not open to the public. It’s held each year for a week long extravaganza of everything automotive in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The show is more than just a display of new products and custom builds, though, as attendees are privy to educational seminars, product demos, and hordes of special events that often brings out some of the celebrities we’ve been watching on television shows for years.
