Inside the very discreet looking building in Signal Hill, California is a place called Hot Rods and Hobbies, owned and operated by Scott Bonowski. Behind the scenes, you’ll find a very large building packed with a diverse variety of projects going on. SpeedHunters reported that their visit came unannounced and Hot Rods and Hobbies was not caught off-guard.
In the shop, they found everything from an old Ford Falcon, a couple of woodies in progress, a Fiat Dino, a Porsche 356 Speedster and a whole slew of other amazing hot rods. Its no wonder that Scott has received the “Builder of the Year Award” at the Grand National Roadster Show.
His shop has a state of the art spray booth, a complete metal fab facility and, judging from the caliber of vehicles, more than enough experience to handle any task including making panels that just simply are not available.
Touring Scott’s shop is an amazing experience, and as there weren’t any projects left dormant and covered in dust proves that Scott runs a high proficiency shop which is a task in itself. There was an absolutely stunning custom ’50 Mercury done in black loaded with a ton of custom one off parts, truly a work of art.
The quality of the restorations done there are of concourse standards and a couple of Scott’s projects were on display. As it is with most builders, Scott admits he doesn’t have very much time to work on his own stuff.
