Combining classic styling with modern horsepower is becoming increasingly popular. While the classic Mustang is a beauty, and to some it offers the raw essence of what a muscle car should be, to others adding a suspension that actually handles well, an overdrive transmission, and more raw horsepower than Ford could dream of fifty years ago is something they must have.

The car featured in this video put together by GearheadFlicks is a gorgeous example of that melding of the old with the new. This 1964 1/2 Mustang was built by Mo Muscle Cars in Houston, Texas. More than just a simple engine swap, this car features the modified engine from a 2007 Shelby GT500. The 5.4 liter mill under the hood has had it’s original blower replaced with a new Kenne Bell Mammoth, which pushes power to 820 hp. An overdrive transmission backs things up.

Sean Hyland provides the front suspension and aluminum subframe, while Control Freak handles the rear with an IRS system. Stopping duties are handled by electrically assisted Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes.

Inside the car is a custom hand-built dash, gauges by Classic Instruments, a modified fiberglass console, custom machined bezels, custom upholstery, and of course Vintage Air A/C to keep things cool when the wind’s not blowing with the top down.

The exterior of the car has been updated as well, this includes the use of a custom made hood to clear the big 5.4 and it’s monstrous supercharger. The bumpers have been narrowed and had their bolts shaved, and the car rides on custom wheels from Boze Alloy.

The video gives a good walk around, and peak underneath, but it’s towards the end that makes it worth the wait. It’s there we get to see the car on the street, and hear the engine through the custom build exhaust system. This is one bad car that any die-hard Mustang fan would be happy to call his own.
