For some of us, we like to build our car to race at a track, but we still like to drive it on the street. So we either hit the alignment shop immediately prior to and post race, or we have the shop set our alignment to a driveable setting that will still give us some performance at the track. That setting isn’t really optimum for either, but it works.
Or, for those of you with early Mustangs utilizing the Detroit Speed, Inc. Aluma-Frame, you now have the option of setting your alignment to drive to the track, re-setting it at the track, and changing it back quickly and simply. Detroit Speed’s new Speed-Lign Adjusters bolt to the top of the Aluma-Frame and allow you to make simple adjustments to camber and caster on the font end alignment with a simple rotation of a star washer that is used to lock the settings in place.
These DSE Speed-Line Adjusters work by allowing you to loosen the adjustment bolt, turn the star-shaped alignment washer and adjust the suspension, and then tightening the bolt back in place. There are three coarse adjustments and five fine adjustments, and the washer is marked in increments.
This allows you to set the alignment for street driving, and mark it, then set it for the track, and mark that (or just save the settings written down somewhere). When you arrive at the track, you can change over to the race settings, and make quick and simple adjustments to see which you like better. If an adjustment isn’t working, it can be easily switched back to the prior setting without an alignment rack.
For now, Speed-Lign Adjusters are only available for the 1964-1/2 – 1970 Mustang with the Aluma-Frame installed, but knowing DSE, it’s hard to believe that they would stop here. We hear they are working on other applications, as well. Check out the Aluma-Frame and Speed-Lign Adjusters at the DSE web site.
