Pertronix brought the good stuff to this year’s PRI Show here in Indianapolis: adding to its already fantastic repertoire of performance products, the company brought along their new Flame-Thrower distributors, which are available for a variety of classic cars.
One thing that caught our eyes immediately was the stock appearance of these distributors. We spoke with Greg Raymond, sales manager for Pertronix, who was able to explain a bit more about the design choice.
“Basically, a lot of guys in the restoration market are getting away from the ‘bling’ of our billet line, and are instead moving towards something that’s a little more incognito,” said Raymond. “So we have a cast program here which actually gives you all the electronics of the late-model Ignitor III with a digital rev limiter [and] dual spark…but stays housed in a factory-looking housing.”
Thus, this would mean great things for many classic and muscle cars, which can now possess all of the perks and benefits of an electronic ignition system while fooling others into thinking it’s the stock part -provided you peel off the sticker, of course.
Adding to this cool feature is the fact that you can adjust multiple aspects of the Flame-Thrower. These include the rev-limiter and ignition timing curve. Also, the dual spark system stays active to the rev-limiter, giving your street machine better, more complete combustion through its power band.
Pertronix continues its respected tradition of quality craftsmanship with these new distributors, using brand new, high-end materials, from the cast aluminum housing to the hardened gear ground.
