PRI 2013: Racepak’s New V500SD And Wireless Bluetooth Capability

Earlier this year, the folks at Racepak rolled out their new V500SD data recorder, and it’s quickly become the go-to recorder for Pro Stock, Pro Modified, and sportsman class drag racers.

DSC_4519The V500SD is built upon the earlier V500 and features a designated Smartwire port that offers the capabilities of V-Net, allowing you t maintain all of your sensor channels. With the V500, if you datalogged the SmartWire channels, it took away from your sensor channels.

“We wanted it to have it’s own designated port so you can add more sensors for datalogging and datalogger Smartwire sensors and not fill up your datalogger,” explains Racepak’s Donny Cummins.

The base configuration of the V500SD monitors six parameters — Engine RPM, Driveshaft RPM, Accel G, Lateral G, Battery Volts and a 12-volt event — and can be expanded to monitor 71 different channels of data and 56 additional channels for monitoring Smartwire channels.

Recorded data can be uploaded to your computer with the use of an SD memory card, providing hours of recording time and the freedom to store a number of runs before uploading the data.

The V500SD is also the first of Racepak’s recorders that has an optional incorporated Bluetooth upgrade that allows you to view all of the recorded functions in a graph or virtual gauge format while the vehicle is running. Although a timetable isn’t set, Racepak is working to offer the ability to stream this data to a phone or tablet through Bluetooth in the future, and upcoming data recorders are expected to include such functionality. The upgrade eliminates the need for serial cables that you can trip over and put the power of live data that Racepak offers right in your pocket.
