There are pros and cons to driving a hot rod on a regular basis, and the most common sacrifice many rodders make is modern convenience and driving performance. Carburetors remain sometimes-finicky devices, fuel economy is almost always an afterthought, and the lack of anti-lock brakes might not seem like a big deal until your front wheels lock up.

That’s why we love this no-compromises ‘32 Chevy hot rod, which cannibalized a C5 Corvette of its drivetrain, suspension, and braking system, creating a car with modern performance and classic looks.

Created about a year and a half ago, this ‘32 Chevy can’t hide its modern drivetrain under its intentionally-rusty body, with the mildly-massaged LS1 engine correctly wired and tuned to the point that the check engine light works and codes can be read. Behind the chunky Grand Sport wheels you can see the Corvette’s big brakes and modern shock absorbers. A rear-mounted six-speed transaxle lets you shift for yourself, though there’s nothing more than the bare minimum as far as interior adornment goes. You get three gauges, two seats, and a steering wheel, and little else.

This ‘32 rides on a custom chassis so it can absorb all that C5 goodness, though the original body has been chopped 6.5 inches up front but just 3 inches out back so you can actually see out the small rear window. A Sunbrella snap-on top can be removed at the owner’s discretion for open-roof driving, and the entire project was designed with easy servicing in mind. To that end, the entire drivetrain can be removed via the bottom of the car, while still maintaining a near-perfect weight distribution. At just over 2,500 pounds dry, this ‘Vette-powered hot rod is ready to rumble and wow your next car meet.
