Burnt ’72 Chevelle, Photos Courtesy of Channel 5 KPIX
This Chevelle was once a beautifully restored ride. We can see the remaining bright red paint with white SS stripes. The person driving was sitting in the Burger King drive thru, when the car caught fire. Luckily, the driver was able to escape from the car before the fire reached them.
However another priceless classic has been lost. The video from KPIX Channel 5 News doesn’t give many details on the incident unfortunately.
What we can see is that the entire front of the car has been burned, most likely resulting from an engine fire. This can easily happen to any of us, which is why it’s crucial to perform regular inspections looking for cut wires and torn fuel lines.
The fire did spread to the building before being put out by the fire department. The entire car wasn’t engulfed in flames, but at least 75% of the car is toast. The only area of the car that looks unscathed is the rear quarter panels and trunk. With the amount of heat put off by a fire of this magnitude, you can bet everything that wasn’t was burnt was melted.
Chalk this up as a lesson learned that we should all be performing regular maintenance and inspections on our cars. Another great idea is to have a small ABC fire extinguisher as well, so if a fire does break out, you have a fighting chance of saving the car. From the looks of the damage to this Chevelle, the driver didn’t have one handy.
Now the question to ask is if this is something worth rebuilding or if the fire completely demolished the sheet metal rendering it useless.
