Do you ever dream of being behind the wheel of a stock car, ramming the throttle into the fire wall while you attempt to over take Jeff Gordon on the high banks of Talledeaga Speedway? Can you imagine the intensity of the race as a pack of forty roaring V8s can be heard blazing by? For $159,900 you can transform this dream into a reality.
Taking a page from the old “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” philosophy, RK Motors Charlotte in conjunction with TRD (Toyota Racing Development) have constructed a 100% street legal Camry NASCAR. The boys at RKM used their ace fabrication skills to build a car that could drive on the street and perform like the stock cars that tear up the ovals on Sundays.
Toyota donated a custom two door Camry body to be used as the base of the exterior. RKM achieved the bodies’ NASCAR styling by custom fabricating a stock car body kit. The body kit’s bumpers where shaped to resemble NASCAR bumpers and they were given several authentic racing features such as Toyota emblems, carbon fiber brake ducts, fog lights and TRD emblems.
The NASCAR inspired spoiler and official NASCAR Badging.
Other authentic NASCAR touches include carbon fiber rear view mirrors, a faired-in deck lid spoiler and side exiting exhaust. A show stopping white and red two tone paint job helps highlight the cars NASCAR shape. Using their expert craftsmanship skills RKM was able to blend the details of an OEM production Camry with the muscular features of a stock car.
Underneath the shell is 358 cubic inches of thunder which deliver 680 horses @8500 RPM that is gurranteed to push you into your seat. The motor has several NASCAR inspired traits such as firewall mounted fuel pressure gauges, remote reservoirs for the brake & clutch and the massive billet aluminum strut tower brace.
The 358 Cubic inches of thunder packed muscle.
The 358 is electronic fuel injected, instead of carburetion, and uses a distributor-less ignition to light its fires. RKM installed massive radiator with electronic fans to keep the engine cool while it operates at racing RPMs. Those with an eye for detail may notice that the engine has been moved back into the firewall. This was done for authenticity, as NASCAR teams move their motors back for weight distribution.
The engine is mated to a Tremec T-56 six speed manual transmission with a Ram dual disc clutch. The dual overdrive gears of the tranny makes the car more streetable. A custom three inch X pipe exhaust system with thrush mufflers and Quicktime performance side cut outs work together to create an HD soundtrack. Race car handling is achieved thanks to a custom suspension which was fabricated using modified MacPherson struts in the front and a Venza-modified multi-link independent rear suspension. The car sits on a set of 20 inch TSW Jarama wheels which are fitted with Michelin Pilot tires on all fours.
As this is a street car, several comforts were added to make driving easier. AC, power steering, a dash with NASCAR inspired gauges and a full leather interior with racing seats, overhead lighting and a Pioneer sound system makes this stock car a smooth ride, even during the day to day grind.
You will feel like Kyle Bush when you are behind the wheel of this wild machine. RKM has done one hell of a job of bring the thrills, sights and sounds of NASCAR to the street. They completed the impossible task of combing the streetablilty of a Camry with the raw performance of a NASCAR.
