After trying for an exhausting 14 long years, Don of Michigan was finally able to take home this 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A 340 Six Pack. The previous owner purchased her in ’73 to go drag racing, he took the car to a body shop and had the fenders flared to make room for big ol’ drag tires. He raced the car until 1985, when he spun a bearing. He then pulled the motor and left the car sitting in the corner of his garage. Since the year 2000, Don has banged on the owners door asking to purchase the car only to be shot down. However, it seems his persistence payed off because he finally made the owner cave and hand over the keys.
Originally the Challenger was covered in the high impacting Plum Crazy, but she has since been painted grey. This athletic machine is equipped with a 340 ci Six Pack which produced 290hp & 350 lb/ft of torque. Three two-barrel Holley carburetors that provide the juice and a 4-speed manual moves the gears. Thanks to its power, the Challenger T/A is capable of 14.5 seconds in the quarter. The owner still has the numbers matching block in the garage which is waiting to be repaired and reinstalled. Only 97,000 original miles were dialed on the clock, including plenty of quarter mile passes.
Despite sitting for 29 years, she is in solid condition with tiny patches of rust in the trunk and on the rear quarter window. We can’t wait to see Don’s vision for this Mopar beauty, hopefully he will rebuild her as a vigorous drag car that leaves a burnt trail of rubber a mile long. Would you bring it back to Plum Crazy, or just drive the hell out of it?
