Ford Mustang Becomes Fine Art

Mustang is already considered art by many followers, but now it has now become, “Fine Art”.  A limited-edition 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback sculpture has been created by U.K. based artist, “Robin Bark”, to celebrate 50 years of the legendary pony.  Ford Motor Company licensed Bark to create a limited-edition collectible sculpture in celebration of the beloved pony.  Only 500 individual pieces will be produced. Each cast is solid aluminum, polished, numbered, and will be signed by the artist.

Bark who has a love for art and a passion for automobiles, often joins the two together. Respected in his field, Bark is skilled in industrial design, graphic design, ceramics, and metalwork. He found he had a gift at an early age which lead to his calling to design cars. At the time there was little demand in this field. Switching gears, Bark pursued industrial design which lead to graphic arts, landing him in the field of advertising at the time. Bark’s career evolution eventually brought him to teaching. During this time he tinkered in a variety of forms of art including metal casting.

Like many artists Bark has a unique process in how he creates each piece.  Bark found the Mustang to be a bit of a challenge from past work.  Stating, “Mustang is a very different shape from the earlier cars I had done, which were more classically streamlined”. I look for what the designers were trying to achieve with the shapes, and try to capture the essence of the car while also imparting a sense of motion to a static object”.

With a pain staking process Bark truly captured the spirit and essence of the pony. Maintaining the sleek lines of the Fastback.  The Mustang with unique stance, makes the pony recognizable to all. Moray Callum, Ford Vice President of global design, stated “Robin Bark  captured the essential nature of one of the greatest Mustangs in his sculpture, creating an object of art that appears to be fluid motion”.  Bark wanting to reveal the story of the Mustang and to reflect in the light,  has achieved this without a doubt. The prototype revealed at Mustang Club events in France and the U.K. has received great response with several pieces already ordered. The limited edition sculptures are available through,  Bark’s art web-site or from Ford.

About the author

Bridgett Davis

Growing up in Greenwood, Indiana a short distance from the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, my dad would take me to local car shows and events. Through this I gained my passion. Along with cars, I have always loved photography, writing, and graphic arts. However when attending college I did not pursue my passions. I played it safe and majored in business and marketing. After a few years in this field I determined this was not for me and began to pursue a writing and photography career. Landing me here with Power Automedia. I am also now the business owner of Bridgett's Toxic Creations. Specializing in automobile showboards, custom license plates, logos, and website headers. Living and breathing the Mustang life everyday in everyway. To be able to work in my field of passion is amazing and fun experience everyday. The best part is sharing a common passion with others.
