While at the 2014 Pigeon Forge Rod Run YouTube user ScottieD spotted another rare beauty. This hot rod is a Goodwrench Corvette GTP race car that was raced in the GTP series from 1986 to 1988. Several road racing, NASCAR and CART legends have piloted this Vette, including Michael Andretti, John Andretti, Arie Luyendyk, Wally Dallenbach, and Bobby Rahal. After the car was retired it fell into private ownership and has recently fallen into the hands of Dr. John Winston of Knoxville, Tennessee, who takes it shows across the country.

The car’s unique shape is a hybrid of a Corvette C4 and a Le Mans Prototype car. The Corvette’s lines can be seen in the headlights, front bumper, the shape of the windshield and of course the taillights. Both a V-6 and a V-8 power plant were used in the GTP series. Despite having a displacement of only 183 cubic inches the V-6 turbo put out an astonishing 900 horsepower. While the V-8 had a displacement of 366 cubes, was equipped with GEN 3 fuel injection, and produced slightly over 700 horsepower. Both motors were mated to Hewland 5-speed transmissions for better overdrive performance on the road course.

A total of seven of these cars were built, with their current whereabouts unknown. A friend of Scottie told him that another GTP Vette fell into the hands of a private collector who rebuilt to car to run on the street. He’s unsure of whether the car is officially registered or if the owner simply takes the tickets. If you could own any iconic race car, what would it be?
