Fords Take Over The Pigeon Forge Rod Run

Fords Take Over The Pigeon Forge Rod Run

For decades now, the event simply known by most as “The Rod Run” takes over every parking spot, every hotel room and just about every inch of road in the popular tourist town of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Originating in the neighboring town of Gatlinburg, the twice a year event quickly outgrew the smaller town and made the move to Pigeon Forge. From there, it became known as “The Grand Rod Run” and was held at the now defunct Grand Hotel. Now the event, simply known as “The Pigeon Forge Rod Run” is held at the beautiful Le Conte Center in the middle of town and draws thousand of cars and spectators alike every April (Spring Rod Run) and September (Fall Rod Run). We were on hand this past weekend for the 2019 version of the Spring Pigeon Forge Rod Run in search of all the cool Fords cruising the Pigeon Forge strip, check out what we found!

The highlight of the Pigeon Forge Rod Run is the actual show at the Le Conte Center itself. Featuring tons of show cars and vendors, the three day event features both inside and outside displays of every car and truck you could imagine. The inside show is filled with invite-only cars and trucks, so naturally it features the best of the best. Lucky for us here in the Ford world, one of the highlights of the show was all blue oval! This 1972 Ford F100 is one of the baddest pick up trucks we have seen in a long time. Forget the fact that it's drop-dead gorgeous, forget the fact that it's blue body is straight as an arrow. What we really want to focus on here is the incredible drivetrain this truck possesses. Two 62mm Precision turbo's mounted to a Brenspeed race-prepped 5.0-liter Coyote engine provide over one thousand horsepower for this truck. A Roadster Shop Fast Track Chassis and Baer six-piston calipers keep the truck under control.

Just like the inside at the Le Conte Center, the outside features a large display of vendors as well as a judged car show and a car corral full of show cars and trucks, including the Ford Ranchero above which is somewhere between.

For many, the main attraction of Rod Run is the huge number of vehicles for sale. All along the Pigeon Forge strip, at least 75% of the cars are priced. Some realistically, some not so much. Be sure and check back for our look at the Ford marketplace at Rod Run coming soon!

The biggest tradition at Rod Run is cruising the Pigeon Forge strip. Vehicles of all kinds spend all weekend riding up and down the strip making the event one large parade. People cruise from daylight until deep into the night. You never know what you will see cruising from Mustangs to the cool Ford Cab Over pictures above. In the past few years, diesel trucks have became extremely popular during the event.
