SEMA 2019: KONI Shocks Enhance Past And Present Builds

On our way through the SEMA Show, we came across our friends at KONI Shocks. The company is known for high-quality shock absorbers, which we saw highlighted on product stands and a real-life 1965 Shelby GT350.

We spoke with KONI’s Lee Grimes to see what the themes of this year’s booth were all about. “We’ve been making performance shock absorbers since the 1950s,” he said. “But cars have changed a lot since then. The spectrum has widened significantly. People do resto-mods and pro-touring builds of these classic cars now, and we can make shocks for these builds. But we can also make shocks for Concours-level restorations that replicate the classic style and ride characteristics of a car’s heyday.”

This authentic Shelby GT350 sported factory New Old Stock adjustable KONI shocks. These shocks are just like the ones the car had back in the 1960s.

Case in point was the 1965 Shelby GT350 sitting pretty in KONI’s booth. On loan from a private owner, the car sported a set of classic KONI shocks, just like the ones that rolled out of the Shelby factory in the 1960s.

On the flipside, performance shocks are more popular than ever, especially on late-model makes and models. KONI had these shocks on display as well – we saw ones for the Mazda Miata, Ford Mustang, and Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, just to name a few. The display spoke to Grimes’ point that KONI’s shocks span the new and old eras of build design. “With the turn of a knob, you can change the car’s driving characteristics to match upgrades, roads, and tuning needs,” he commented.

Modern shocks for modern cars – Ford Mustangs, Mazda Miatas, Scion/Subaru FR-S’s and BRZ’s – were also on display.

KONI Shocks will continue to be a prime option for discerning car owners that want adjustable performance on their ride. To find out more about their products, be sure to check out the KONI website and Facebook page.
