Imagine finding a classic American muscle car that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor decades later. That’s pretty much the story with an incredible 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible heading to Mecum Auctions in Indianapolis. With just 656 original miles on its odometer, this super-rare GTO is already making waves and could fetch a huge price, possibly over $300,000.

Finding a GTO Judge Convertible is tough enough, but this one’s even rarer: it’s one of only 168 made for the 1970 model year with the gutsy Ram Air III V8. Those incredibly few 656 miles are a big reason for the eye-popping price estimate, clearly showing it has lived a pampered life, stored away rather than driven. It is scheduled to go across the block on Friday, May 16.

The car’s condition backs this up. It gleams in its factory Pepper Green paint, topped with a light tan soft top, and still wears its bright, green and blue side decals. Original wheels with period-correct BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires complete the picture.

The auction listing might be light on detailed ownership history, but the photos of the interior pretty much say it all. For a car that’s 55 years old, the inside looks almost new, with hardly any signs of wear. That’s what you’d hope for with such low mileage, but even cars that just sit can fall apart if not stored right. Clearly, someone took great care of this Pontiac.

Under the hood sits the original 400 cubic-inch (6.6-liter) Ram Air III V8, which Pontiac said made 366 horsepower back in the day (using the old gross rating). Importantly, it’s bolted to a four-speed manual transmission – just as muscle car fans like it.

As Carscoops, who highlighted the car, noted, this big V8 has something often missing today: real character. It rumbles, it growls, and it makes you want to find an open road.

For serious collectors of American muscle, this 656-mile GTO Judge convertible is a dream find. When it hits the Mecum auction block in May, all eyes will be watching to see if this stunning piece of Pontiac history breaks the bank. It has all the ingredients to be a star attraction and potentially set a new high-water mark for these legendary cars.
