It may be somewhat of an oxymoron that a Corvette can be a sleeper, but that is exactly what Dan Topp has done with this beautiful black 2008 Z06. After purchasing the car with 5 thousand miles on the odometer (is a car “used” if it only has 5k on it?), Topp wanted his ‘Vette to be capable of dominating the weekend competition events that he likes to enter.
With the long list of performance parts that the car now boasts, there is little doubt that he should do well. Making sure that the bottom end can take the strain, Topp installed a Magnum crank and a set of Calles Ultra rods. To these he added Ross pistons and topped off the LS7 block with Mast Black Label heads.
It needed the additional strength too as a Procharger F-1C race supercharger pumps up the fun with an additional 10lbs of boost and is cooled with a CRY02 intercooler chiller. Making sure that nothing gets in the way of that infusion of air is the Nick Williams 102 throttle body and a VaraRam air intake system. Lots of fuel means lots of fun, so the fuel intake is increased with a FAST 102 fuel rail system.
Getting the spent fuel out is just as important to performance, so Topp added a set of Kooks 1-7/8-inch Jet Hot treated headers that features a cat-less x pipe exhaust system and Topp says that the mufflers have been modified to ensure that there is little to restrict the flow. We’re sure that it also makes the engine sound great, too. There’s nothing like the throaty rumble of an unencumbered V8 heading down a long straightaway.
Two seems to be Topps favorite number as he uses dual oil coolers to cool the engine while a Ram twin clutch setup makes sure that the huge additional horsepower gets to the track surface.
And horsepower is something that the car seems to have as the modifications that Topp has added adds up to an additional 150hp. That means that the car is no producing somewhere in the 800rwhp range. We’re thinking that makes the great handling ‘Vette a lot of fun anywhere. Topp wants to thank the crew at Total Power for building the engine he always wanted for this Corvette.
Topp has many plans to put his ‘Vette up against all comers and is currently looking forward to entering a 1/2 mile shootout in Monee, Illinois. (Monee, that’s apt) put on by www.wannagofast.com.
