Among Porsche enthusiests, Akira Nakai is a controversial Japanese Porsche tuner, and the founder of Rauh-Welt Begriff. Ten years ago, his creations were mostly known to a small niche of enthusiasts in Japan. Today, RWB-ed Porsches are an international sensation due to the Japanese and Euro tuning elements used create the distinct RWB style for Porsche chassis.
The result of German engineering with Japanese styling mixed with American wheels is this 1989 Porsche 911 custom Carrera 4 coupe that offers a captivating blend of power and performance.
The 911 Carrera 4 coupe has received a 15-piece RWB widebody kit, and Porsche OEM clear corner lights were added along with custom bi-xenon HID headlights with RWB etched housings. The Porsche comes covered in BASF Glasurit Porsche Guards Red applied by LT Motorwerks in El Monte, California.
Suspension modifications include KW V3 coilovers, and braking is handled by a Brembo big brake kit. This RWB wears a set of 18-inch Forgestar M14 three-piece wheels wear Pirelli Corsa 265/65 front tires and 335/30 rears.
Whats unique about the Forgestar M14 wheel is that it is custom tailored to fit this individual car. Forgestar uses a ‘flow-forming’ process to manufacture their wheels, which significantly reduces the cost but retains the strength and weight of a forged wheel.
A multi-piece wheel can be configured in ways that is otherwise not possible with a monoblock wheel. In the case of the M14, a face color can be chosen as well as an outer barrel color and hardware color. Wheel size options are currently limited to either an 18-inch or 19-inch diameter. Each has width options that range from 8- to 14-inches.
This RWB is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six that was rebuilt by Turbo Kraft in Mesa, Arizona. The Work included a single turbo kit designed by Bisimoto Engineering, removing and disassembling all engine components, rebuilding the both top/bottom ends, timing the camshafts, and installing a Motorsports engine bearing set.
Other engine mods include an AEM Infinity ECU, a Garrett intercooler core, 1000cc injectors, all new gaskets, timing chain rails, belts, and custom JE pistons among other things. Additionally, power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The black interior was fitted with an RS carpet kit, a Momo Mod 7 steering wheel with a custom RWB horn insert, and an aftermarket head-unit. Inside, a color-matched roll-cage built by Unique Fabrications has been fitted along with a pair of Momo Supercup seats reupholstered in Leather, custom sliders, Schroth Racing harnesses, and PCI side mounts.
German engineering, Italian brakes, Japanese styling and American footwear makes this RWB a true international effort.
