This week’s podcast guest is Todd Gartshore from Baer Brakes. Today Baer is known as an industry leader that produces some of the best brake kits in the world, be it for a street car or a race car.
Like a lot of things though, what we know as Baer Brakes today is not how it all started! It’s actually an offshoot of Baer Racing, Inc., and they specialized in building hot race-caliber Mustangs. Through that process they came up with a braking system that worked well and gave them an advantage at the track, and it was something that other racers immediately noticed.
Interest in their brake packages grew and following the 1993 race season, Hal Baer partnered with Todd Gartshore and Robert Sommers to form Baer Brake Systems.
Today Baer makes a braking system for nearly every muscle car application out there, from a stock system upgrade, to drag race brakes, and to big road course and autocross brakes. They do all of their machining in house and have oodles of experience in getting their systems right from the beginning so that they can be as “bolt-on proof” as possible.
Some of the little things that they do to ensure a quality installation are to pre-pack wheelbearings with RedLine grease and to make sure that if you purchase a pre-bent line from them that it’s actually bent in the correct places to fit your car!
These may seem as “small potatoes” to some, but for those of us who have built a few cars we realize that it’s the little things that can be the most frustrating. When a company takes the guess work out of retrofitting modern parts onto old cars, it’s appreciated.
Thanks for the interview, Todd. I look forward to the next one!
