A quality fuel cell is an integral part to the functionality and safety of a racecar, these tanks feature advanced construction methods, exotic materials and technologies and generally carry and SFI rating for five years and the option to extend that certification.
Fuel cells can be awkward in terms of packaging in the confines of a production vehicle, to ease some of these issues Fuel Safe has decided to break away form the pack and redesign the fill plate location of their cells. While a center fill-plate is aesthetically pleasing and traditional, it’s not always convenient from a plumbing perspective.
“For so long everyone has had their fill plates right in the middle, and we asked; why not put it in the back so when you’re on-throttle it gets fuel?” stated Jimmy Luntzel of Fuel Safe.
“We’ve been setting them up so the fill plates work with Radium, Aeromotive, Holley fuel systems. You can choose what fuel components you want, that’s another thing we’re working on. We’re going to be doing full fuel systems, so you can call with your application and we’ll have the kit.”
With these additional options that accommodate the fuel system of your choice, builders are not constrained to a specific model of fuel cell. Fuel safe has been working on weight savings as well, introducing carbon fiber tops and cases.
“We’re going to be pushing carbon tops and full carbon cans too, it’s just about giving people options. Once you have the mold for it, it’s easier to make than an aluminum setup,” concluded Luntzel.
