Pure unharnessed power! That’s what you get at the tractor/truck pulls that take place every weekend across the land. Everyone that has ever witnessed these machines grunt from the starting line and lumber down the track dragging a metal sled as far as it can has a sense of this power.

The sled usually contains a weight that is mechanically winched forward as the sled moves down the course. The load increases as it moves forward, and eventually the pull vehicle losses momentum and stops. The goal is to build a tractor or truck that can complete the course and make a “full pull.”

The crew at Polar Air by Eaton have designed and built one of the coolest two-wheel drive trucks on the circuit. We were able to see this beast up close at this year’s PRI Show in Indiana. Alan Cain gave us a personal tour around the rig, pointing out some of the added extras in this build. Frankly we were amazed at the level of detail put into a vehicle designed less for speed and more for strength.

Often we find street rods that are confused with their theme and have too many mismatched items, so we didn’t expect to see a truck designed for tractor pulls to be complete and in-tune with the theme of the vehicle. Generally these vehicles are an experiment in “whatever works” to get the job done. Not so in Cain’s Polar Air Puller.
